“Order a drink, and while we are waiting for it to get here, we can discuss Adam. Then, you will be officially off the clock and it will be two guys having dinner and drinks.”

After they placed their orders, Rob asked, “So what’s going on with Adam? I noticed he’s got a D in your class, but he has an A in all his other classes.”

“Adam is a very bright student, but he seems distracted. He looks as if he’s paying attention, but his mind is somewhere else. I mean, whenever I look at him, he’s looking at me, but he’s daydreaming about something else,” Javi explained.

“That’s not surprising, considering I had the same problem when I was in your class,” Rob said.

“You were in my class? How long ago was that?” Javi asked.

“I graduated eleven years ago, and I was in your class my senior year. I always enjoyed your class and thought you were the best teacher.”

Javi thought for a minute, and then said, “Robert Anderson, I remember you now. You sat right in front of my desk. I thought you looked familiar. You’ve grown and matured into a very handsome man. The beard looks great on you.”

“Thank you. I know you’ve had a lot of students in the past eleven years, so I didn’t think you’d remember me.”

“That was my first year of teaching and I was so inexperienced. Now that I think about it, you were a lot like your nephew. I always saw you looking at me, but could tell your mind was anywhere but on verb conjugations. What were you always daydreaming about?” Javi asked.

It was Rob’s turn to blush as he said, “Uh, I’d rather not say. It’s too embarrassing.”

“Now you’ve got me curious. Go ahead and tell me. I promise I won’t judge, so you have nothing to be embarrassed about. Besides, it was eleven years ago, so I’m sure you’re a different person now,” Javi urged.

“It may have been eleven years ago, but sitting here with you, I’m having the same daydreams I had back then,” Rob admitted.

“In that case I’m guessing it has something to do with me. Please, tell me. I’m dying of curiosity,” Javi said as he placed his hand on Rob’s.

The warmth of Javi’s hand sent a jolt of excitement through Rob, melting his hesitancy about confessing his dreams. “Remember you asked me to tell you and you promised not to judge me. I was fantasizing about all the things I’d love to do with you.”
