Poppy was only able to swallow one sip before the doorbell rang. She smirked. From her space at the kitchen table, she extended her ear. “Who is it?”

“The big bad wolf,” Susan answered, her laughter infectious.

“Oh really? How do I know?”

Poppy heard Susan press her fingers against the wood grains and scratch with her nails. She growled playfully. When she spoke, she kept the animalistic purr to her voice, so it sounded as if there were marbles in her mouth. “I have big claws.”

“All the better to touch me with?”

“Yes, yes,” Susan hissed. “And big eyes.”

“All the better to see me with?”

Poppy rose from the table and walked down the small hallway towards the door. She peered out the peep hole and saw Susan right way. Susan leaned over, towards the peephole, the crest between her breasts deep and wonderful. Poppy couldn’t wait to taste her -- or was that the other way around in the small game they were playing?

“I have big, big teeth,” Susan said, right on cue.

“All the better to taste me with?”

“Uh-huh,” Susan said, her plump lips visible against the peephole. “And I have a big, big tongue.”

“All the better to suck me with.”

“Uh-huh, uh-huh. And my big, fat wolf dick is --”

Poppy cut Susan’s jovial tone off with a large laugh. She opened the door and stood over the threshold, her arms akimbo on her hips. “All the better to fuck me with. Now come on, enough play acting. I want you inside.”

Susan let out another roar of laughter. Behind her, distant over the trees, Poppy noticed the sun setting. They were running low on time.

Susan walked inside easily, her straw bag over her shoulder. She kissed Poppy quickly on the mouth for a greeting. Poppy pulled her in for more, her hands threading through the strap of Susan’s purse.

“Straw?” Poppy asked, cocking an eyebrow. “Will we ever learn?”

“I like it. And it wasn’t my fault that my house blew over. Even Selena still eats apples. Why should we give up our favorites, just because of one bad experience? I thought that was the point of all this.”

Poppy grinned. She let go of the strap and ran her fingers along Susan’s shoulders, getting close to her mouth again. “Speaking of which, let me get you a glass of what I was drinking. Courtesy of Vera.”

Inside the kitchen, Poppy poured some of the bourbon into a small glass for Susan. She pulled out one of the yellow flowers, hanging to avoid bad spirits, and threaded it through Susan’s hair as she placed the glass by her side.

“Cheers,” Susan said, holding her glass in the air. “Where is grandmother?”

“Sleeping soundly. I didn’t even have to get her drunk to get her out of the way. She took care of it for me.”

Susan grinned. “She sounds like a fun woman.”

Before Poppy could answer, Vera let out a large snore. The two women exchanged a stifled laugh. Susan walked over to the kitchen table and set her drink down, along with her straw purse.

“So what did you bring me?” Poppy asked.
