The crimes may conceal a plot against the king. After Thomas enters the Den of Thieves in disguise, Pierre himself is arrested for the murders and Christopher disappears from London, on the search for Thomas’s real father. The past is a shadowed hallway where every door opens onto another and every love divides the heart. William Holden has truly mastered portrayal of 18th century London, again bringing it vividly to life in this third Thomas Newton Adventure. Thomas and his friends Pierre and Christopher face evil at every turn in this book, from those both highly and lowly placed. With youthful wiles and determination, the three men manage, despite numerous obstacles, to outwit the oppressors and prevail on the side of good. Mr. Holden has also left the door open for a fourth Thomas Newton Adventure which I do hope to see one day.
