Unlike his parents and his twin Seamus, Ian O’Donnell is not a good witch. Or rather, he isn’t quite good at it. Studying charts and remembering candles hasn’t ever really been his thing. Still, he longs to see the mystical sites of the world, especially the Great Pyramids of Giza. When Ian finally reaches them, though, he finds himself more attracted to the sexy man who works the night shift at his hotel than he does the pyramids.

Ian’s able to convince Khnurn to take him to the desert for a romantic evening in front of the pyramids. Everything’s going great until Khnurn gets serious. He tells Ian he’s a vampire and they’ve known each other before. Unfortunately, Ian can’t recall ever having been in a serious relationship in this life, or any other, and he isn’t quite sure Khnurn isn’t just feeding him pick-up lines. When Khnurn leaves Ian alone to think about things, another man appears in Ian’s life, a crazy-looking spectre that might just be the Angel of Death.

Ian soon finds himself hightailing it back to Massachusetts just in time for Halloween with his wonderfully animated witch family and their coven. Unfortunately, it isn’t souvenirs Ian’s brought back with him, but rather the creepy spectre from the desert, and maybe a sexy vampire who might just be the love of his life.

“Are you going to drink my blood?” Ian asked.

“What if I just wanted to make love to you, here in the sand, in front of the pyramids?”

Ian turned to him, glad that Khnurn’s face was as close as it was, and he reached over and kissed Khnurn. The kiss was gentle and sweet, and Ian followed it by wrapping his arms around Khnurn. Ian grabbed Khnurn’s shoulder blades and pulled him even closer.

Ian pulled away for a second, and whispered, “You can take this for a yes.”

No sooner were the words out of his mouth than he returned to kissing Khnurn.

Khnurn’s kisses were soft and gentle, with the finesse of an experienced and mature lover. Ian could feel himself relaxing into Khnurn just as solidly as he felt the air from the post storm breeze as it moved over them. Khnurn extended his hand, and motioned for them to move to the ground. Ian glanced at the sand, loving the idea, but for once in his life demonstrated practical concerns.

“Don’t we have to worry about snakes, or scorpions, or other things like that?”

“Things like that know not to bother me,” Khnurn said.

“I am seriously impressed, although I did have an aunt who had a similar effect on most creatures, human or otherwise,” Ian said with a laugh. “She kind of embraced the stereotypes of my people.”

“Well, there is no one else like you. You defy all stereotypes, and the effect you’re having on me is now becoming overwhelming,” Khnurn said, kissing Ian’s neck and behind his ears.

“Because you’re a vampire?” Ian said. “Oh, sorry. Should I use that word?”

“It’s fine to say it when we’re alone, but other people don’t appreciate me the way you do,” Khnurn explained. “Like your people, mine have had many names as well. That is probably one of the least offensive that we’ve been called. As for why I’m attracted to you, yes, part of that is because of what you are, and what I am. Our kinds have always been drawn to each other. We have a long, shared history. Also, as I mentioned, people like you can become overwhelmed by the pyramids. If you combine that with our attraction, well, that can be a lot. Most of our attraction though, has to do with who you are, and who I am. Your hair is black, like the darkest nights.”

“It’s actually red. Seamus wears his natural color, but I’ve always preferred black.”

“And it suits you,” Khnurn said, beginning to nibble on Ian’s neck.

“Are you getting ready to suck my blood?” Ian asked.

“No, but I do want to remove your shirt something fierce,” Khnurn said, slipping his hands under the thin, green T-shirt that Ian wore.

“You don’t sound like an ancient vampire,” Ian said. “Well, maybe there are times you do.”

“That’s because I keep up with the times. When you are like me, you have to stay hip, but my old ideas come through sometimes. Now, about that shirt.”
